After a long break, here is the next series of on-Page Optimization on navigation structure and URL. The navigation of a website is important in helping visitors quickly find the content they want. Avoid putting all pages in one root directory. I highly recommend having at least 2 or max 4 levels. It’s depends on your content and number of pages. For adam-seo.com, here is the navigation structure.
You will notice the folder name and page URL are filled with keywords. Here is second part about URL with keywords. First, my content pages don’t have variety of categories. It focuses on search engine optimization with < 15 pages. 2 levels of folders are good enough for me to manage all my content. I named my folder and pages with my keywords. I.e. off-page-optimization.html under search-engine-optimization folder will read as http://www.adam-seo.com/search-engine-optimization/off-page-optimization.html. This will provides rich information to search engine about the content of the page. I do have a blog to let me update and share news with everyone. Instead of put the folder name as blog, I named it as malaysia. This is because my primary keyword is Malaysia SEO. All the blog posts under my blog will have the starting URL as http://www.adam-seo.com/malaysia/. The URL contains Malaysia SEO keyword in this case.
Navigation menu also play an important role to make sure search engine can crawl all your pages. Always go for text link or css menu link instead of Flash menu, Silverlight menu or java applet. This is because search engine do not understand them. The other important factor is never ever use frame or iframe in your page.
